Centre for Research on Ecclesiastical and Religious History

Activities of the Centre

The Centre for Research on Ecclesiastical and Religious History was established at the end of 2018 within the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences as an open platform to bring together scholars specializing in ecclesiastical and religious topics in the Czech lands regardless of what period their research is devoted to. The primary focus of the centre is the history of Christianity and the religious environment in the Western Christian religious and social milieu. The centre’s research activities extend to the history of other religions primarily in cases where their historical interactions with Christianity can be traced. In light of the current fragmentation of research on the topic in the Czech Republic, one of the goals of the centre is to mediate and encourage communication between different experts and institutions, establish international collaboration, develop interdisciplinary dialogue, and deepen mutual awareness about projects and research topics in contemporary Czech historiography. In addition, the centre is prepared to assist interested parties with the coordination of various research projects and can also provide direct support mainly by organizing meetings devoted to relevant topics and through future publishing activities.

The Centre for Research on Ecclesiastical and Religious History is a member of the Commission Internationale d'Histoire et d'Etudes du Christianisme (International Commission for History and Studies of Christianity; CIHEC).
