Challenges and contemporary topics of Czech Slavonic Research. Language – Literature – History – Archaeology – Ethnology – Art History

International Scientific Conference, organised by the Slavonic Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Czech Society for Slavonic, Balkan and Byzantine Studies, the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Brno and the National Library of the Czech Republic – Slavonic Library, will be held on 25 and 26 September 2024 at the Academic Conference Centre (Husova 4a, Prague 1).

The goal of the conference is to open a discussion about the form and direction of Czech Slavonic studies, about its tradition and current concepts, paradigms and methodological supports, or about future research topics. All this in the context of current political events. The intention is not only to summarize the current research and traditions of this field, but also to try to define today's Slavic studies and establish the thematic areas that need to be followed now. In addition to philological and historical topics, presentations focused on cultural history, archaeology, art history, ethnology, etc. are also welcome. The conference is organized in connection with the preparations for the XIII. of the International Congress of Slavists, which will be held in Paris in August 2025 and the approaching hundred years since the 1st International Congress of Slavists was held in Prague in 1929.

Call for Papers

Applications with the name and surname of the applicant including titles, the name of their workplace or sending institution, the title and language of the contribution and its annotation of up to 600 characters should be sent by 30 June 2024 to vlcek@brno.avcr.cz.
