Corruption – Clientelism – Crisis in Europe 1789–1989
The workshop Corruption – Clientelism – Crisis in Europe 1789–1989 will take place at the National Archives on 15 March 2024 from 9:00 to 14:00.
It builds on activities that were addressed within the framework of the AV21 Strategy's research program "Resilient Society for the 21st Century. Crisis Potentials and Effective Transformation".
The session and subsequent discussion will bring together the perspectives of different social science disciplines, history, sociology, economic history, and legal sciences.
In previous conferences, we have paid attention to the issue of the stability of society, its cohesion, and its readiness to resist destabilizing pressures, especially in times of crisis. In connection with the preparation of this autumn's conference with the same title as our workshop, we are focusing on the topic of the place of corruption, clientelism, and paternalism. In an environment of crisis, these harmful social phenomena, along with other factors, succeed in upsetting the stability of the system, which in extreme situations can also result to phenomena of social anomie.
