The Politics and Collective Identities of Bohemian Germans (1848-1914)
The project will analyse and classify the manifestations of the collective identities of the Bohemian Germans between 1848 and 1914. It will observe the changes in the hierarchy of their ties with different social entities, defined nationally (or ethnically, culturally or linguistically), territorially (state, land, region, town), politically (nationalism, liberalism, socialism), socially (bourgeoisie, peasantry, working class) or confessionally (Catholics, Protestants, Jews). The focus will lie in political and intellectual history. The main result of the project will be a monograph presenting a comprehensive picture of the forms and transformations of the collective identities of Germans in Bohemia.
